There’s a new kid on the block. Well, maybe not so much kid, but a middle aged priest. My name is Fr. Tim Luschen and I am happy to join the parish of St. Charles as the new pastor. I just hope that I can continue the wonderful leadership you have enjoyed in the past. Let me tell you a bit about who I am.

Our first full house meeting campaign to identify issues important to St. Charles Borromeo parishioners resulted in 85 people coming together in small meetings to talk about life in Oklahoma City. An additional 50 people attended meetings and trainings in 2009, sharing their stories and learning about community organizing.

The title of this 1869 hymn by Robert Lowry perfectly describes how we can respond to God in song during the liturgy. At St. Charles, opportunities abound to express that enthusiasm. Hand bell choir, for youth and adults, meets Wednesdays, 5:45-6:45 p.m. You do not have to read music to participate. Choir practice is also Wednesday, from 6:45 to 8 p.m. Hispanic Choir and ensemble meets Thursdays, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Margaret Hochla, Director of St. Charles’ Sacred Music and Liturgy, says auditions are not necessary for the choirs. Come talk with her and try singing a few Sundays to see how you like it. More voices are always needed in all choirs.

Relationships are the building blocks of our lives. We move through life almost always in relation to someone else—as siblings, friends, colleagues, nieces, nephews, parents, aunts, uncles or grandparents. The best relationships help us feel good about who we are, because we know we are loved.

Pope Benedict XVI has decreed a "Year for Priests" that began June 19. This special year coincides with the 150th anniversary of St. John Vianney, the Cure d' Ars, who is the patron of parish priests. St. John Vianney was known to spend up to 18 hours a day in the Confessional hearing Confessions. Many miracles and conversions have been attributed to him. In conjunction with this year the priests of this parish will offer the Sacrament of Confession additionally every Wednesday evening from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

In 1955, St. Charles School opened with one-hundred fifteen students, four classrooms, and three teachers, all Carmelite sisters. Today, a 1955 student would find enormous changes; eight grades, computers, smart boards, library, lay teachers, smaller classes, a full menu of sports, and extracurricular activities such as scouting, band, and student council. Educational aims remain the same as they were fifty-four years ago. Saint Charles school is empowered by Gospel values to develop lifetime learners. The motto is “Act kindly, love tenderly, and walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8

This summer 11 high school students representing St Charles and Christ the King youth traveled to San Antonio, TX to participate in a summer mission trip with the Young Neighbors in Action (YNIA) program offered through the Center for Ministry Development. They left on June 21st and returned on June 28th.

Click on the blue arrow to download and read one on your computer. If you watch closely you will notice that the bulletins post on the web site before the weekend so you can get a jump on the information before you attend mass.
